On 28 February 2019, the Belgian Federal House of Representatives approved the new Companies and Associations Code,
completely overhauling company law and the legislation governing associations. The priorities are flexibility, modernisation and simplification. This new code gives businesses the chance to reflect on the key legal aspects involved in the development of a company.
The new code will come into force on 1 May 2019 for new companies and associations. Existing companies will have to come into line with the new legislation when amending their articles of association for the first time after 1 January 2020 and in any case no later than 1 January 2024.
